I remember at the time, it was dark and I was not happy I was living as a boy until I was 15 - I just didn't like who I was. I was a late bloomer, puberty didn't hit me until I was 15 or 16.' 'I always knew I was meant to be a girl but I just couldn't put it into words until puberty came along. I never saw my body as a boy's body,' AJ told Daily Mail Australia. 'I felt more like a girl who was trapped in a different body that developed differently to other girls. 'Now I feel complete and I'm so lucky to be surrounded by love and acceptance.'Īt the age of 18, she was formally diagnosed with gender dysphoria - a condition where people don't identify with their biological sex. 'Unfortunately, there are things in life that are out of our control and in order to be happy, we have to make tough decisions that we can only hope will bring us peace. 'There's nothing really separating me from any other girl, I can now live my life the way I look at it,' she told Daily Mail Australia.
